ONE FOR THE LADIES…….
By Neil O’Hanlon
Ladies, if you’re of a certain age and going through the menopause or peri-menopause then you may be a little frustrated at the increase in body fat that usually comes as part and parcel of your lower hormone levels. Why do you gain weight, especially abdominal fat you might ask? Well, it’s linked with reduced oestrogen levels, and a big reduction in metabolism and lean muscle mass which happens to us all as we get a bit older. As well as this, the lower quality sleep, headaches, hot flushes and night sweats your probably experiencing are not helping and causing mood swings and anxiety.
The Takeaway
So how can you combat this and not let it get you down? I would suggest including some moderate aerobic activities like, walking, cycling, dancing and running. Next I would advise performing a simple all round body weight strength routine that hits all the major muscle groups. Nothing fancy or too intimidating, just enough to burn some fat and tone some muscle up. And to help turbo charge this process, I would encourage you to eat more protein and dairy products that include calcium, whilst calming down on your carb intake. Trust in the process, be consistent and good things will happen.
Stay Positive.
